Malcolm In the Middle

answer this question

The Krelboynes are a group of gifted students at Malcolm's school. About six Krelboynes make recurring appearances. They have a hard time making non-Krelboyne friends because of their almost nonexistent popularity, and social problems. Malcolm is often called the coolest of the Krelboyne kids. The name 'Krelboyne' was inspired by the nerdy character Seymour Krelboyne, of Little Shop of Horrors (which was changed to Krelborn in the musical version). Original Poster 3 years ago. So the show made it up? Or was it already being used by teenagers as an insult?

The important thing is why the creators picked a nickname for them at all- it gives them a politically correct slang term that be used positively or negatively without offending any real people. It was a pretty awesome strategy!
Krelboyne
it was definitely meant negatively as a derogatory term, but you bring up a good point that they made their own word up so they could get away with making fun of smart/geeky/nerdy people without it being clear and offending smart geeks/nerds
